What Is a Cuspal Sub-Lord?

2026-01-26 · 5 min read

Every house in a birth chart has a starting point called a cusp. In KP Astrology, the cusp of a house falls within a specific Nakshatra, which is itself ruled by a Star Lord - and that Star Lord's portion is further divided into Sub-Lords.

The planet that rules the Sub-Division in which a house cusp falls is called the cuspal Sub-Lord of that house. KP practitioners consider this Sub-Lord central to interpreting what that house may indicate for a specific question.

Why this level of detail matters

Two charts can look broadly similar at the level of signs and houses, yet have different cuspal Sub-Lords - which is one reason KP practitioners can arrive at more specific, individualised interpretations for a particular question rather than a generic one.

You do not need to calculate any of this yourself before a consultation - it is something Shri Deepak Pawar works through as part of the analysis once your birth details and question are shared.
